Vârful Postăvarul

Vârful Postăvarul is the highest point of Masivul Postăvarul, reaching an altitude of 1,799 m — also known as Vârful Cristianul Mare. The massif is part of the Carpații de Curbură and is bounded to the east by Valea Timișului, to the west by Valea Râșnoavei, and to the north by the Depresiunea Brașovului, above whose urban centre it rises by approximately 1,200 m. The geological substrate consists predominantly of crystalline schists and Mesozoic limestones, with traces of tectonic activity visible in the structure of the relief. Vegetation ranges from spruce and beech forests up to around 1,600 m, above which stretches a zone of dwarf pine shrubs and alpine meadows. The fauna includes the brown bear, the Carpathian red deer, the lynx, and numerous species of mountain birds, among them the western capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus). The massif has 35 accredited alpine trails of varying difficulty levels. The most frequently used hiking trail starts from Poiana Brașov along the Red Cross marking, known as "Drumul Roșu", with a duration of 1.5–2 hours; another accessible trail begins in Brașov, through the Șchei neighbourhood, following the red stripe marking, with a duration of 3–4 hours. The cable transport facilities in Poiana Brașov — Telecabina Capra Neagră and Telegondola Postăvarul Expres — considerably reduce the ascent time. From the summit, panoramic views take in the Depresiunea Brașovului, Munții Ciucaș, Piatra Mare and Munții Baiului to the east, and Piatra Craiului, Munții Făgăraș, Munții Perșani and Măgura Codlei to the west and south.
