Transalpina - the Alba section

Transalpina, also known as Drumul lui Dumnezeu (God's Road) or DN 67C, is one of the most spectacular mountain roads in Romania, and the section that crosses Alba County, in the area of Sugag commune, is perhaps the wildest and most impressive segment of this legendary route. Descending from the Urdele pass and winding through the alpine meadows of the Sureanu mountains, the road offers landscapes of rare grandeur, where the sky feels within reach and civilisation seems a distant concept. At altitudes exceeding 2,000 metres, the road cuts through vast alpine meadows dotted with dwarf pine shrubs, crossing areas where the wind blows relentlessly even in the height of summer. The Alba section of Transalpina connects localities such as Sugag and Oasa, passing by the Oasa reservoir of the same name and offering exceptional viewpoints towards the proud ridges of Sureanu and the valleys of the Sebeș river. The road has been in use since the Second World War, carrying with it both a military and a human story. Open seasonally, generally from May to October depending on weather conditions, it is frequented by motorcyclists, cycle tourists and adventurous drivers from across the country and abroad. The Alba section of Transalpina is, without doubt, an unforgettable experience for anyone who loves the mountains and the open road.
