Bușteni-Babele Cable Car
The Bușteni-Babele cable car runs from Strada Telecabinei in the town of Bușteni up to the Babele station on the Bucegi Plateau, close to the Babele and Sphinx rock formations. The line is 4,350 m long with a vertical rise of 1,235 m, and a trip takes about 12 minutes and 40 seconds. Work began in spring 1973, construction took place in 1974-1977 and the cable car opened in August 1978. It was designed by Ceretti & Tanfani of Milan and built by the Mining Construction and Assembly Trust, Brașov site. The line has six pylons and two cabins, each carrying 24 passengers and an attendant. In 1982 a second section, Babele-Peștera, 2,600 m long, opened down towards the Ialomița valley. The cable car is operated by Genetrix SA. For 2026 the operator publishes a daily timetable with the first ascent at 8:30, the last ascent at 15:00 and the last descent at 16:00; on Tuesdays it starts at 10:30, after technical inspection. The timetable can change and the cable car stops in strong wind, so it is worth checking before setting out. Marked trails lead from the Babele station to the Heroes' Cross on Caraiman and other parts of the massif. The lower station is in Bușteni, Prahova County, and the upper one in Moroeni commune, Dâmbovița County, inside Bucegi Natural Park, where visiting requires a ticket issued by the park administration.
