Timișu de Sus

Timișu de Sus is a component locality of the town of Predeal, set in the Timiș Valley, Brașov County, at an altitude of about 800 m. The valley, crossed by the Brașov–Bucharest road and railway, separates the Postăvaru massif to the west from the Piatra Mare massif to the east, creating a cool microclimate with long winters and abundant rainfall. The slopes are covered with conifer and beech forests, including spruce and fir. Unlike the nearby resort of Predeal, Timișu de Sus has kept a quiet character, with scattered guesthouses and a peaceful atmosphere, valued above all as a starting point for hikes. From here, some of the best-known natural attractions of the Piatra Mare massif are accessible: the Tamina Waterfall, one of the most spectacular falls in the area, and the Seven Ladders Canyon, a limestone gorge fitted with metal stairways along a series of waterfalls. The Ice Cave at Timișu de Jos can also be reached from the same area. The locality is a choice for those seeking mountain quiet and hiking trails, a short distance from the city of Brașov and the busy resorts of the Prahova Valley, but without their crowds. It is worth visiting for its direct access to the waterfalls and canyons of Piatra Mare and for the natural setting of the valley between two massifs.
