Timișul de Jos Resort

Timișul de Jos is a locality that forms part of the town of Predeal, situated on the valley of the Timiș river, at the point of contact between the Postăvarul Massif to the north-west and the Piatra Mare Massif to the south-east, in Brașov County. The area began to attract visitors as a recreation and mountain tourism destination in the 19th century, a period during which Austro-Hungarian Brașov encouraged the construction of villas and guesthouses in the surrounding localities. The natural setting is dominated by coniferous and deciduous forests typical of the lower mountain belt, with species such as Norway spruce, beech and Scots pine, traversed by the course of the Timiș and its tributaries. From within the locality, marked trails lead toward the Postăvarul Massif and the Piatra Mare Massif, including toward Canionul Șapte Scări. Wildlife includes brown bear, red deer, wild boar and various birds of prey characteristic of the Carpathian forests. A notable local historical feature is the monastery of the Order of the English Ladies (Maria Ward), which operated in the locality until 1948, when it was dissolved by the communist authorities. Accommodation is available in villas, chalets and agrotourism guesthouses. The locality lies in the immediate vicinity of the city of Brașov, on the DN1.
