Saturn Resort

Saturn is a locality within the municipality of Mangalia, situated on the Black Sea shore between Mangalia to the south and the resort of Venus to the north. Construction began in the 1960s and was completed in 1972, with the resort being built within the area of Pădurea Comorova. Saturn entered the tourist circuit in 1971, when the hotels Cerna, Semiremis, Cleopatra, Aida, Tosca, Narcis, Dorna, Atena and Cupidon were inaugurated, with a total accommodation capacity of approximately 15,000 places in 2-, 3- and 4-star establishments. The resort has two main beaches: Plaja Adras in the north, close to Venus, and Plaja Diana in the south, towards Mangalia. The alveolar beach is protected by 5 T-shaped breakwaters flanking 4 small bays, creating areas of calmer water. The distinguishing feature that sets Saturn apart from the other resorts along the coast is its spa character: the area has 21 sulfurous mesothermal springs, the same springs that feed Mlaștina Hergheliei in Mangalia. The natural therapeutic factors include sulfurous, chlorinated, bicarbonated, sodium, calcium mesothermal mineral waters with temperatures of 21–28°C, seawater with a mineralisation of 15.5 g/litre, sapropelic mud from Lacul Techirghiol, and peat mud from the resort's peat bog, all used in the treatment of gynaecological conditions and disorders of the locomotor system. The climate in the Comorova area is somewhat warmer than that of the northern coastal resorts, owing to its more southerly position. The resort caters primarily to families with children and to visitors who prioritise rest and balneary treatments over entertainment and nightlife.
