Predeal Resort is located in Brașov County, at an altitude of roughly 1,030-1,110 m, making it Romania's highest mountain resort. It lies in the Prahova Valley, near Predeal Pass — a historic Southern Carpathian pass separating the Bucegi Mountains from the Piatra Mare Mountains, and one of the main links between Wallachia and Transylvania — about 25 km from the city of Brașov and 142 km from Bucharest.
Predeal is documented since 1674, and its tourism development accelerated significantly after the Sinaia-Predeal railway opened on 10 June 1879, connecting the area to the country's main urban centers. The town only became an autonomous urban commune in 1935.
The resort has a network of ski slopes ranging from about 790 m to 2,250 m in length, with elevation drops of up to 400 m, served by cable transport facilities. Its main ski areas are Clăbucet and Cioplea. The average annual temperature is about 5°C, and snow cover typically lasts between 90 and 130 days a year. The surrounding vegetation is dominated by spruce and fir forests typical of the upper mountain zone. Wildlife includes Carpathian red deer, brown bear, wolf, and numerous forest bird species.
The area's network of marked trails provides access to Clăbucetul Taurului Peak (1,772 m) and Vârful cu Dor, as well as to the Bucegi, Postăvarul, Piatra Mare, and Baiu Mountains. Road access is via national road DN1 (E60), while rail access is through Predeal railway station. Worth visiting for its ski infrastructure, operational 4-5 months a year, and for its direct access to mountain trails connecting several massifs of the Curvature Carpathians.
