Geoagiu Băi resort is situated in Hunedoara county, at an altitude of approximately 340 m, in the Geoagiu depression, on the bank of the Geoagiu river, a tributary of the Mureș. The locality lies about 7 km from the town of Geoagiu and approximately 35 km south-east of Deva. The resort's origins are Roman — during the period of Roman Dacia, the settlement was known as Germisara, a spa centre frequented by Roman legions and civilian colonists. Roman vestiges discovered in the area include bathing pools, votive statues and inscriptions dedicated to healing deities, most of which are today displayed in museums throughout the region. The thermal waters at Geoagiu Băi have a temperature ranging between 28°C and 36°C and are classified as mesothermal, sulphurous, calcic and magnesian, with properties recommended for the treatment of rheumatological, neurological and gynaecological conditions. The flow rate of the thermal springs is approximately 6–8 litres per second. The resort was attested as a modern spa locality as early as the 19th century, during the period of Austro-Hungarian rule. Access is via DN7 (E68) to Geoagiu, then along DJ107K towards Geoagiu Băi; the distance from Cluj-Napoca is approximately 140 km. It is worth visiting for its unique combination of functional spa infrastructure, documented Roman heritage and natural thermal springs with a distinctive chemical composition.
