Bran-Moeciu Tourist Area

The Bran-Moeciu tourist area is one of the best-known mountain destinations in southern Transylvania, set in the Rucăr-Bran Corridor, Brașov County, at altitudes of roughly 800 to 1,100 m. The corridor separates the Bucegi Mountains, to the east, from the Piatra Craiului and Leaota Mountains, to the west, and was an old route linking Transylvania to Wallachia. The landscape is marked by narrow valleys, wide pastures and forests of beech and conifers. Unlike a single compact resort, Bran-Moeciu is an area made up of several villages — Bran, Moieciu de Jos, Moieciu de Sus, Cheia, Măgura, Peștera, Fundata — each with its own character. The scattered settlements preserve traditional architecture, with wood-and-stone homesteads, and after the 1990s the area developed rapidly as an agritourism destination, today home to several hundred small and medium guesthouses known for local cuisine and dairy products. The area is valued above all as a base for exploring its surroundings: from here it is easy to reach Bran Castle, the Moeciu Gorges, the traditional villages of Moieciu de Sus and Fundata (the highest settlement in Romania), as well as the mountain trails of the Bucegi and Piatra Craiului. The proximity of several major attractions, combined with well-developed rural tourism infrastructure, makes Bran-Moeciu a convenient starting point for hikes and mountain stays.
