The Stejarii seculari de la Breite nature reserve lies on the Breite plateau, south-west of the centre of Sighișoara. It protects a wood pasture, with old oaks scattered across grassland, grazed for centuries. The main species are pedunculate oak, sessile oak and their hybrids.
The Breite oaks are the oldest living things in Sighișoara. More than 500 trees on the plateau are between 200 and 800 years old. Young trees are few, and in some areas absent altogether.
The plateau can be explored on foot and is reached from the Ana Ipătescu district of Sighișoara. Woodpeckers, songbirds, lizards, bats and butterflies live on the plateau.
The reserve is a protected area of national interest, listed in Law no. 5/2000, with an area of 70 hectares within the municipality of Sighișoara. The area is also part of the Natura 2000 network.
