Trivale Natural Reserve Pitești

Trivale Forest is a oak-dominated forest (cvercinet type) located in the western part of the municipality of Pitești, Argeș County, and is one of the most significant green areas of the city, playing an important role in environmental protection, recreation, and ecological balance for the local community. The forest covers low hills at altitudes ranging from approximately 290 to 430 metres, at the contact zone between the Piemontul Getic and the plain. The vegetation is dominated by oaks and hornbeams, alongside linden trees and other deciduous species, with some specimens reaching an advanced age; the floristic inventory of the area comprises hundreds of plant species, some of which are under a protection regime. The forest constitutes an important habitat for numerous species of birds, insects, and small mammals. In terms of its protection status, Trivale Forest was declared a forest reserve of local interest as early as 1994, and over the years efforts have been initiated to have it declared a nationally protected natural area, covering an area of over 400 hectares, with the aim of conserving the forest ecosystem and protecting it from urban and real estate pressure. Near the forest lies Lacul Bascov, a reservoir built on the Argeș river, which enhances the ecological diversity of the area through its aquatic and wetland habitats. Being integrated into the urban fabric of Pitești, the forest is crossed by trails and pathways and represents a valuable example of a peri-urban forest in the region where the plain meets the hilly area.
