Coasta Rupturile-Tanacu Nature Reserve

Coasta Rupturile Tanacu Nature Reserve is a protected area of national interest, classified under IUCN Category IV (natural reserve of floristic type), located in the Podișul Central Moldovenesc, in the north-central part of Vaslui County, within the administrative territory of Tanacu commune. The reserve occupies a west-facing slope, heavily affected by water erosion and landslides, known locally as "Coasta Rupturile", approximately 2 km from the village of Tanacu, near county road DJ244K. It was declared a botanical reserve in 1973 by Decision no. 220/1973 of the Executive Committee of the Vaslui County People's Council, and was subsequently included in Annex I of Law no. 5/2000 at position 2776. It overlaps with the site of community importance ROSCI0041 Coasta Rupturile Tanacu, administered by the Tanacu commune Town Hall. The slope-type chernozem soil, nearly loamy in texture, provides conditions for a rich flora of rare steppe and continental species, including: bărbisoară, ruscuță, ai de stepă, zambilă sălbatică, stânjenel de stepă, pintenaogă, sparcetă and pălămidă. In 1957 the area was planted with acacia trees to stabilise the terrain; the plantation was subsequently cleared and the land used as pasture. In the vicinity are the wooden church "Sf. Voievozi" in Tanacu (1826) and the wooden church "Sf. Nicolae" (1819), both listed historical monuments, as well as Mănăstirea Tanacu.
