Tomis Harbour, Constanța

Tomis Harbour is the tourist and fishing port of Constanța, built in 1958 in the former Gulf of Dolphins, in the immediate vicinity of the Casino and the historic centre. The harbour basin was formed by enclosing the gulf with two breakwaters — the northern one, Y-shaped, measuring 600 m, and the eastern one measuring 500 m, extending from the Casino promenade. It hosts leisure craft, yachts and fishing boats, fish restaurants, and serves as the departure point for cruises on the Black Sea.

Tomis Harbour, Constanța
Tomis Harbour is the tourist and fishing port of Constanța, located in the historic centre of the city, at the northern end of the Casino promenade, a few hundred metres from Piața Ovidiu. It was built in 1958 on the site of the former Gulf of Dolphins, by enclosing it with two breakwaters: the northern one, Y-shaped, originally 400 m long and extended by a further 200 m in 2007, and the eastern one, which extends from the Casino promenade for a length of 500 m. Three of the basin's four sides — eastern, southern and western — are fitted with quays for mooring. Water depths range from 0.5 m in the south-western area to 3 m in the north-eastern area. The harbour operates both as a marina for leisure craft and yachts and as a base for local fishing boats, lending the area an authentically Mediterranean atmosphere. Between 2008 and 2010, additional investment was carried out to increase capacity and tourist traffic. Managed by Marina Tomis Management SRL, the harbour offers mooring and maintenance facilities for small vessels, excursions and cruises on the Black Sea — including those organised aboard the sailing vessel Edith — and yacht rentals for licence holders. Restaurants and fish-speciality terraces line the quays. The harbour is flanked by Cazinoul Constanța to the east and by the Faleza Arheologică to the west, with the area combining modern nautical infrastructure with the remains of ancient Tomis visible on the upper promenade.
