Sulina Beach is the sandy beach of the town of Sulina on the Black Sea coast, south of the jetties at the mouth of the Sulina Branch and about 2 km south-east of the town centre. It is reached by the road that runs east from the town, past the International Cemetery. It is largely undeveloped.
Like the whole delta coast, the shore here was built from Danube sediment and from sand carried along the coast by sea currents. In 2011 the town of Sulina and its beach received the international QualityCoast Award, Gold category, under the QualityCoast programme led by the Coastal and Marine Union (EUCC), after an assessment covering natural values, water quality, heritage and local identity.
The Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve Authority has set up two hiking trails here: D6, Sulina, Sulina Beach, and D7, along the beach. The town's surroundings have sandy, salty soils with dune vegetation including tamarisk (Tamarix ramosissima), and reeds, bulrush and water mint in the marshy areas. Sulina can only be reached by water, on passenger ships from Tulcea. An ARBDD access permit is required for the reserve; within it, tent or caravan camping is allowed only at authorised, equipped campsites.
The beach is part of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, recognised as a UNESCO biosphere reserve (1990), a Ramsar wetland (1991) and a World Heritage Site (1991), and the territory of Sulina is included in the Natura 2000 site ROSPA0031 Danube Delta and Razim-Sinoie Complex.
