The Sinaia ski area lies on the slopes of the Bucegi Mountains, above the town of Sinaia, Prahova County, and has two zones: the lower zone at Cota 1400 and the higher zone at Cota 2000. From the town, the gondola runs from the Zona 1000 station to Cota 1400, a ride of about 10 minutes in eight-seat cabins. The gondola was inaugurated in December 2007.
Since February 2016 the two zones have been linked by the Carp gondola, the second section of the Sinaia gondola. It is 2,000 m long, has 42 eight-seat cabins and a capacity of 1,500 people per hour, and its top station is at 2,050 m. In the Valea cu Brazi area the cable runs 120 m above the ground, and at the first three pylons the gradient reaches 45 degrees. The investment was 9 million euros, and the lift was built in seven months. It takes its name from the Carp run on Fața Mare, with a gradient of up to 43 degrees.
Besides the gondolas, the area has a chairlift between Cota 1400 and Cota 2000 and lifts in Valea Dorului (an older chairlift and T-bar, plus a new chairlift opened in the 2022-2023 season). In December 2022 Sinaia town hall bought the resort's cable installations, and a single ski pass covers them. When the Carp gondola opened, its operator was Transport Urban Sinaia, a state-owned company.
Operation depends on the weather: in strong wind, dense fog or storms the lifts are stopped temporarily, and sometimes only the section up to Cota 1400 runs.
