Parcul Sub Tâmpa

Parcul Sub Tâmpa is an urban green space laid out at the foot of Muntele Tâmpa, on the eastern side of the municipality of Brașov, along Aleea Tiberiu Brediceanu, in the immediate vicinity of Bastionul Țesătorilor. The park occupies the transitional zone between the historic city centre and the steep slope of Tâmpa, serving as the main departure point for routes to the mountain's summit. Tâmpa is a residual limestone landform, with an altitude of 960 m, belonging to Masivul Postăvarul, with vertical walls on its southern and south-western sides. It is almost entirely surrounded by the municipality of Brașov, making it one of the few mountain peaks located within a city. The northern slope of Tâmpa features the BRAȘOV inscription, visible from most parts of the city. Several marked trails to the summit begin from the park: the 25 switchbacks cut in 1837 by the Brașov forestry district, Treptele lui Gabony, and Drumul Cavalerilor. The Tâmpa cable car can also be boarded from the park; inaugurated in 1970 and fully renovated and reopened in October 2025, it has a length of 573 m, climbs from 640 m to 960 m altitude in under 3 minutes, and arrives at the Restaurantul Panoramic at the summit, itself reopened after 15 years. The park's vegetation includes lime trees, chestnuts, poplars and maples, alongside ornamental shrubs. The wildlife of Tâmpa includes species characteristic of Carpathian deciduous forests: deer, wild boar and foxes.
