Baia Sprie Mine Park
The Mine Park in Baia Sprie is the first mining theme park in Romania, inaugurated in April 2025 on the southern slope of Dealul Minei, in the Munții Gutâi. It encompasses 80 hectares of forest officially designated as a Park Forest, with marked thematic trails leading to Lacul Albastru and Crăpătura Zorilor. Visitors can explore private mine galleries up to 300 years old, accompanied by specialist guides from the Montana Speleology Club and with appropriate equipment. The area has been known since the medieval period for its rich deposits of gold, silver, lead and zinc.

The Mine Park in Baia Sprie is a mining theme park — arguably the only one of its kind in Romania — inaugurated on 1 April 2025, located on the southern slope of Dealul Minei in the town of Baia Sprie, Maramureș County, within the volcanic chain of the Munții Gutâi. The project came into being in 2024 at the initiative of the Asociația Mineritului Maramureșean, funded by the Baia Sprie Town Hall and Local Council together with the Maramureș County Council, in partnership with the Montana Speleology Club, the Maramureș County Museum of History and Archaeology, and Salvamont Maramureș. As part of the project, 80 hectares of forest on Dealul Minei were officially designated as a Park Forest. Baia Sprie is one of the most important localities in the Maramureș mining belt, known since the medieval period for its rich deposits of gold, silver, lead and zinc, with a centuries-old extractive tradition and several unique features within this industry. The park draws on this heritage through marked thematic trails with a mining character, which complement the routes to two already well-known spectacular natural landmarks: Lacul Albastru — a lake whose water changes colour, formed by the collapse of a mine gallery — and Crăpătura Zorilor. Along the park's trails, visitors can admire or explore private galleries from the last 300 years, waste tips containing material extracted during various historical periods, surface works and mine shafts, old stopes, outcrops, characteristic erosion formations and viewpoints. Visits to the mine galleries are conducted exclusively with a specialist guide and appropriate equipment, on request via the form on the official website parculminelor.ro. Access is from the town of Baia Sprie, approximately 9 km east of Baia Mare.
