Floreasca Park

Floreasca Park, in Bucharest's 1st district on Calea Floreasca, covers about 7 hectares near Lake Floreasca (70 hectares), separated from it by Mircea Eliade Boulevard. The park was laid out in 1961-1963 on the site of the former "Floreasca Pit," an unsanitary interwar-era Bucharest slum. Mature vegetation, paved paths, and bike lanes make it a functional urban leisure space. It is reached by metro, with Aurel Vlaicu and Ștefan cel Mare stations about 1-1.5 km away.

Floreasca Park
Floreasca Park is one of Bucharest's notable green spaces, located in Sector 1 on Calea Floreasca, near Lake Floreasca, from which it is separated by Mircea Eliade Boulevard. The park was designed between 1961 and 1963 on the site known as "Floreasca Pit" — an unsanitary, partially electrified, garbage-strewn slum of interwar Bucharest, cleared by the communist regime. It covers about 7 hectares. Nearby Lake Floreasca has a different story: it was created in 1936 by regulating the course of the Colentina River, under the direction of engineer Nicolae Caranfil, as part of the major hydro-engineering works that drained the Colentina marshes during King Carol II's reign, alongside Lakes Herăstrău, Băneasa, and Tei. The lake covers 70 hectares, stretches 3 km, and is connected to Lake Herăstrău by a lock built between 1933 and 1936. The park's vegetation includes mature deciduous trees — lindens, plane trees, oaks, and chestnuts — alongside paved pedestrian paths and leisure areas. The Floreasca area saw significant urban densification after the 1960s, when numerous apartment blocks were built. In 2008, the park was taken over by the Bucharest Lakes, Parks and Leisure Administration and completely renovated: paths rebuilt, trees and hedges planted, a new playground added, and night lighting installed. It is easily reached by public transport, with the nearest metro stations being Ștefan cel Mare and Aurel Vlaicu, about 1-1.5 km away. The area has bike lanes connected to the capital's wider network. Worth visiting for its high accessibility, proximity to a navigable lake, and urban leisure infrastructure that make it a spot for active relaxation in northern Bucharest.
