Arad Cultural Palace

The Cultural Palace in Arad is one of the most representative examples of eclectic architecture in western Romania, built in 1913 to the designs of architect Ludovic Szantay. The building is located at Piața George Enescu no. 1, in the centre of the municipality of Arad, and is the main cultural landmark of the county. The palace has been listed as an architectural monument. The main façade measures approximately 85 metres in length and is decorated with neo-Baroque and Secessionist elements characteristic of Austro-Hungarian architecture from the early twentieth century. The interior includes a performance hall decorated with mural paintings and applied artworks created by artists of the period. The building houses the Arad Museum Complex, established in 1893, with collections organised into sections covering archaeology, history, ethnography, natural sciences, Romanian and European art, decorative art and theatre history. The museum holds over 300,000 items, including European artworks, regional natural history exhibits and historical documents relating to Arad county. The palace is approximately 500 m from Arad railway station and is accessible by public transport from any part of the city.
