Mociar Forest lies in the north-east of Mureș County, in Gurghiu commune, between the villages of Solovăstru, Beica de Sus and Gurghiu, close to county road DJ153C from Reghin to Hodac. The 48-hectare reserve covers marshy ground at the western foot of the Gurghiu Mountains.
The forest is a protected area of national interest under Law no. 5 of 6 March 2000.
The stand is dominated by pedunculate oak (Quercus robur, about 60%), with ash (20%), hornbeam (10%) and aspen (10%). The forest's scientific value comes from the great age of its oaks, estimated at 400-500 years. It is home to the usual wildlife of Transylvanian oak woods, such as roe deer and wild boar, and to diurnal and nocturnal birds of prey.
The reserve is in IUCN category IV and is part of the Natura 2000 site "Mociar".
