Sinaia Town Museum (Știrbey Castle)
The Sinaia Town Museum stands at 28 Bulevardul Carol I, close to the town centre at the edge of the forest, in the building known as the Știrbey Castle or the Alina Știrbei Villa. The villa was built in 1874-1875 as the holiday residence of Princess Alina Știrbey, daughter of Prince Barbu Știrbei, and her husband, General Ioan Emanuel Florescu, to designs by the Dutch architect Josef Jacob Schieffeleers. Built in the German Romantic style typical of the mountain resorts of the time, it is one of the oldest holiday residences in Sinaia. The villa was surrounded by a park, which also held a Știrbey family chapel painted by Gheorghe Tattarescu. In the communist period the building housed the Pioneers' House, and after 1989 it was the town's tax office until around 2012. Restoration work began in 2013. The museum opened in 2015 and presents the history of Sinaia in 13 exhibition rooms. The building, listed in the national register of historic monuments as the „Vila Alina Știrbei” and dated 1875, is a class A historic monument, LMI code PH-II-m-A-16657.
