Vasile Pârvan County Museum Bârlad

The "Vasile Pârvan" County Museum in Bârlad is one of the oldest museum institutions in Vaslui County. It was founded on 10 April 1914 under its original name, "Muzeul Județului Tutova" (Museum of Tutova County), at the initiative of professor Stroe Belloescu and a group of Bârlad intellectuals. Its current name, "Vasile Pârvan", was assigned in 1957 in honour of the Romanian historian and archaeologist Vasile Pârvan (1882–1927). The museum operates across several premises. The main headquarters is the Central Palace at Strada Vasile Pârvan no. 1, a 19th-century landmark and former headquarters of the Tutova County Prefecture. Other premises include Casa Sturdza (built in 1796, Strada Vasile Pârvan no. 4), Casa Miclescu, and the "Marcel Guguianu" Exhibition Pavilion. The collections are organised into five departments: Archaeology-History, Art, Natural Sciences, Astronomy, and Notable Personalities of Bârlad. The archaeology department includes pieces ranging from prehistory to the medieval period, Dacian and Romano-Byzantine artefacts, and Roman and medieval numismatic treasures. The art department comprises paintings, sculptures, furniture, ceramics, and jewellery from the 17th and 18th centuries. In 1993, the Museum of Collections opened in Casa Sturdza, featuring six collections donated by notable individuals. An Astronomical Observatory has been in operation since 2006, a planetarium since 2009, and a 3D cinema since 2011.
