The museum stands at 248 Ștefan cel Mare Street, in the Municipal Park of Roman, and is one of the units of the Neamț National Museum Complex. It was founded in 1962 by the museum curator Tărăbuță. Its first home was a 19th-century building at 5 Alexandru cel Bun Street. The second, at 244 A Ștefan cel Mare Street, in a former property of the politician Costache Morțun, reopened in 1999 after two years of reorganisation. Since 2011 the museum has been housed in a new building in the Municipal Park. The collections hold more than 30,000 items: herbaria, insect and mollusc collections, specimens preserved in formalin and mounted birds and mammals. Much of the material comes from the Siret floodplain, and the permanent exhibition presents the flora and fauna of the Roman area. The museum also holds temporary exhibitions. The museum is of national importance, belongs to the Neamț National Museum Complex and reports to the Neamț County Council.
