Muzeul de Istorie Roman
The History Museum in Roman is part of the Neamț National Museum Complex and was founded in 1957. The exhibition is housed in the Nevruzzi Palace (Casa Nevruzzi) on Strada Cuza Vodă, a mid-nineteenth-century Baroque building listed as a historic monument under LMI code NT-II-m-B-10660. Over time the building served as a private residence, a party office, a commercial high school and a children's home. In 1983 three ceilings painted by Ludwig Branner in 1884 were restored. The museum's second building is Casa Fălcoianu (LMI code NT-II-m-B-10659), which holds storerooms, laboratories and workspaces. The museum started with three objects and now holds more than 170,000, most of them from archaeological research in the area. They include Neolithic finds from Aldești, the Cucuteni A Eneolithic hoard from Brad with two gold discs, Bronze Age pieces, the grave goods of the Dacian cemetery at Văleni, a collection from the classical Dacian period from the fortress at Brad, objects of the free Dacians and medieval finds from the Roman fortress and nearby villages (fourteenth to sixteenth centuries). The museum also holds coin hoards, seals, weapons, books and documents relating to the town, as well as a portrait of Stephen the Great by Epaminonda Bucevschi, commissioned in 1884 for the Romanian Academy. The permanent exhibition occupies 15 rooms in chronological order, from the Palaeolithic to the end of the First World War, and traces the history of the town from its first documentary mention on 30 March 1392. An upstairs room houses the permanent exhibition „Situl arheologic de la Brad” (The Archaeological Site at Brad). The museum also took over the collection of the former Society of Medicine and Pharmacy of Roman, named after its founder, Epifanie Cozăcescu. The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays.
