Brașov Ethnography Museum

The Brașov Ethnography Museum is one of the most important institutions of its kind in Romania, housed in a building on Bulevardul Eroilor no. 21, constructed in the 19th century in Neo-Renaissance style. The museum holds a permanent collection of over 30,000 ethnographic pieces representing the material and spiritual culture of communities from the Brașov area, Țara Bârsei and the neighbouring regions of Transilvania. The collections include traditional folk costume, agricultural and craft tools, ceramics, textiles, household objects and furniture characteristic of the ethnographic zones of south-eastern Transilvania. A distinct section is dedicated to the customs and traditions of calendar festivities, with artefacts from the Bran, Rucăr-Bran and Codlea areas. The institution also organises temporary exhibitions and educational activities on a regular basis. The museum operates under the authority of the Brașov County Council and is open Tuesday through Sunday. It is easily accessible from the city centre, approximately 500 metres from Piața Sfatului, either on foot or by public transport serving Bulevardul Eroilor. Parking is available in the areas adjacent to the boulevard. It is well worth a visit for its systematic and rigorous documentation of the traditional Saxon, Romanian and Hungarian civilisation of the Brașov area, featuring rare pieces dating from the 18th and 19th centuries.
