Constanța Art Museum

The Art Museum in Constanța is located at Bulevardul Tomis no. 82–84 and operates across two connected buildings, with exhibitions spread over three levels. The main building dates from 1895, features neoclassical exterior decorative elements and is listed as a historical monument under code CT-II-m-A-02852; it originally housed the oldest school in Constanța. The second building is modern and was erected between 1980 and 1982. The museum was established on the basis of a collection of paintings and sculptures from the Constanța City Hall Pinacoteca, subsequently enriched with works transferred from the National Museum of Art in București and through acquisitions and donations by artists Marius Bunescu, Ion Jalea and Boris Caragea. The collection also includes works from the Balcic Art Collection (1935–1937), a period during which the royal family's summer residence was located there. In the first building, on the ground floor, key works are on display by Theodor Aman, Nicolae Grigorescu, Ioan Andreescu and Ștefan Luchian, complemented by sculptures by Ioan Georgescu, Frederic Storck and Dimitrie Paciurea. The upper floors present the chronological evolution of Romanian art throughout the 20th century, with an emphasis on the movements of realism, Romanian impressionism and modern art, including representatives of the Dobrogeană school. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions featuring artists from Romania and abroad. Visiting hours: 10:00–18:00 in season and 09:00–17:00 off-season; closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
