Muzeul de Istorie și Arheologie Piatra Neamț
The Museum of History and Archaeology in Piatra Neamț, part of the Neamț National Museum Complex, was founded in 1934 by the priest Constantin Mătasă and has occupied the former Prefecture and County Court building at Strada Mihai Eminescu no. 10 since 1980. Its reorganised permanent exhibition reopened in May 2025 and presents archaeological finds from the Palaeolithic to the Middle Ages.

The Museum of History and Archaeology in Piatra Neamț is part of the Neamț National Museum Complex and is housed at Strada Mihai Eminescu no. 10, near Piatra Neamț railway station, in an early twentieth-century building that served as the seat of the Prefecture and the County Court. The building is a listed historic monument (LMI code NT-II-m-B-10560). The Cucuteni Eneolithic Art Museum, located next to the Curtea Domnească, is a branch of this museum.
The museum was founded in 1934 by the priest Constantin Mătasă (1878-1971) in the building of the „Regina Maria” National House. It later moved to the School no. 1 building and has occupied its present premises since 1980. As the Regional Archaeology Museum, it was the only museum between the Carpathians and the Siret until 1957. Its collaborators included Vladimir and Hortensia Dumitrescu, Radu and Ecaterina Vulpe, Silvia Marinescu-Bîlcu and Alexandru Vulpe. Since 1969 the museum has published the journal „Memoria Antiquitatis. Acta Musei Petrodavensis”.
Most of the collections come from the museum's own fieldwork, including the systematic excavations at Calu-Piatra Șoimului, begun in 1935 by Radu Vulpe, and those at Bâtca Doamnei and Cozla. The reorganised permanent exhibition reopened on 15 May 2025. It occupies 16 rooms with about 600 m² on the ground floor and presents finds from the Palaeolithic to the Middle Ages, using display cases, illustrations, screens, dioramas and a scale model of the Bistrița Valley. The museum's holdings also include the gold vessel hoard from Rădeni and the silver vessel hoard from Muscelul de Sus (Iași County). The museum also has a numismatic cabinet.
The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays.
