Moieciu de Sus – Traditional Village

Moieciu de Sus is a component village of Moieciu commune, in the south of Brașov County, at an altitude of about 800–1,000 m, in the Rucăr-Bran Corridor, which separates the Bucegi Mountains from the Piatra Craiului Mountains. The village has a traditional scattered layout, typical of mountain areas, with homesteads spread along the Moieciu Valley and over the slopes, set some distance apart from one another. Local architecture is dominated by houses of wood and stone, built using techniques passed down through generations and adapted to the harsh climate, with hard winters and abundant rainfall. Traditional occupations included raising sheep and cattle, processing milk and wool, and woodcraft — activities that shaped the area's agricultural landscape over centuries. Local dairy products, especially caș and urdă cheeses, are recognised across the region. Thanks to its natural setting and proximity to Bran Castle, the village has developed in recent decades into a mountain agritourism destination, with numerous guesthouses promoting traditional cuisine. Unlike the larger resorts nearby, Moieciu de Sus retains a quiet character, and mountain trails lead directly from the village towards the Bucegi and towards Fundata, the highest settlement in Romania. The area falls within the sphere of the Bucegi Natural Park and the Piatra Craiului National Park. The village is of interest for its authentic mountain rural habitat, with a spatial structure and traditional practices that are relatively well preserved.
