The monastery stands on the eastern edge of the village of Soporu de Câmpie, towards the boundary with the village of Frata, in Frata commune, Cluj County. The village lies in the Transylvanian Plain, east of Cluj-Napoca, at an altitude of about 383 m.
The monastery is recent: it was founded between 1992 and 1994 by Father Nicolae Pașca-Tușa, the village priest from 1977 to 2018, who in the same period also built a bell tower and a new parish church (2006-2015). The village itself is much older: a Roman-period settlement and a Roman-era cemetery have been excavated within its boundaries.
The monastery is an active place of worship that can be visited while respecting monastic rules. The village also has the old and the new parish churches. The village of Frata, the commune seat, lies immediately to the east.
The monastery is not a listed monument. The archaeological sites around the village, however, are on the List of Historic Monuments (for example CJ-I-s-A-07180, the "Cuntenit" site).
Did you know that about 2 km south of the village, at the "Cuntenit" site, archaeologists excavated between 1956 and 1961 a 2nd-3rd century cemetery with 189 graves excavated out of an estimated 215, attributed to a Dacian community living in the Roman province? In many graves, handmade Dacian pots appear alongside Roman vessels.
