Poienile Izei Monastery

Poienile Izei Monastery is an Orthodox monastic establishment located in the commune of Poienile Izei, in the central part of historical Maramureș. Situated in Valea Izei, one of Romania's most representative ethnographic areas, the monastery forms part of a cultural landscape renowned for its wooden churches, carved gates, and traditions preserved to this day. The current monastic complex was developed in the contemporary period and serves both the local community and pilgrims visiting the region.
