Oasa Reservoir

Oasa Reservoir stretches majestically in the heart of the Munții Șureanu, at an altitude of approximately 1,260 metres, along the course of the Sebeș River, in Alba County. Created following the construction of the Oasa dam, which was commissioned in 1979, the lake has long surpassed its original role as a hydroelectric power source — today it is one of the most spectacular tourist attractions in southern Transylvania. Its broad expanse of water, covering around 870 hectares, reflects the forested ridges of the surrounding mountains in a visual spectacle that reinvents itself with each season: greenish and bright in spring, deep blue in summer, ablaze with fiery hues in autumn, and sometimes covered by a thin sheet of ice during the harsh winters of the Șureanu. The road to the lake is an experience in itself — it crosses wild valleys and dense conifer forests, gradually preparing the visitor for the spectacle that awaits upon arrival. Rest areas have been set up along the shore, and sport fishing draws tourists from across the country every season. Lake Oasa is also an ideal starting point for mountain trails leading to the ridges of the Șureanu and to the celebrated Transalpina — "Drumul lui Dumnezeu" — which winds its way just above it. A rare combination of the grandeur of human engineering and the untamed wilderness of the high mountains.
