Brașov Zoo

Brașov Zoo is located in the Noua district, on Strada Brazilor, in a wooded area in the eastern part of the city, next to the Noua forest and lake. Founded in 1950, it covers about 10 hectares laid out as a natural park, with alleys and extensive green spaces. The institution is run by the Brașov municipality. The collection comprises around 300 animals of nearly 70 species, both native and exotic. Representative animals include a pair of white lions, tigers, camels, monkeys, reptiles and a red panda — one of the zoo's more recent attractions — alongside local fauna such as bears, wolves and deer. The grounds also house a planetarium presenting astronomy shows, making the site both a recreational and an educational destination. Since September 2025, Brașov Zoo has been a full member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA), a status confirming its compliance with European standards of animal care and its involvement in conservation programmes. The zoo is one of the city's most visited attractions, especially for families with children, valued for its quiet natural setting, the variety of species and the presence of the planetarium.
