"Ion Andreescu" Art Galleries
The "Ion Andreescu" Art Galleries represent the main visual arts exhibition space in the municipality of Buzău, located in the central area of the city, on Bulevardul Nicolae Bălcescu. Operating within the Centrul Județean de Cultură și Artă Buzău, the galleries host, across two levels, temporary exhibitions, collections, creative workshops and cultural events. The space bears the name of the painter Ion Andreescu, one of the great representatives of Romanian painting in the 19th century, connected to Buzău through the period during which he worked as a teacher in the city, and it hosts the prestigious "Ion Andreescu" International Biennial of Contemporary Art.

The "Ion Andreescu" Art Galleries represent the main space dedicated to the visual arts in the municipality of Buzău, situated in a central, green area of the city, on Bulevardul Nicolae Bălcescu. The galleries operate within the Centrul Județean de Cultură și Artă Buzău, a public institution under the authority of the Consiliul Județean Buzău, and offer, across two levels, a generous exhibition space for temporary and touring exhibitions, art collections, creative workshops and various cultural events. The space bears the name of the painter Ion Andreescu (1850–1882), one of the most important Romanian painters of the 19th century, considered, alongside Nicolae Grigorescu and Ștefan Luchian, a precursor of modern Romanian painting, noted in particular for his landscapes and for a technique closely aligned with the spirit of the Barbizon school, where he studied in France. Although he was born in Bucharest, Andreescu is closely associated with Buzău, where he worked as a teacher of drawing and calligraphy at the "Chesarie Episcopul" Seminary from 1872 to 1878, which is why the city claims him as "the great painter of Buzău". The galleries regularly host exhibitions of painting, sculpture, graphics and decorative art, as well as large-scale cultural events, among them the "Ion Andreescu" International Biennial of Contemporary Art, held without interruption for nearly three decades and bringing together artists from Romania and abroad. Over the years, exhibitions featuring original works by the painter, on loan from the collections of the Muzeul Național de Artă al României, have also been organised in this space, making the galleries an important cultural landmark of both the city and the wider county.
