The Gallery of Notable People (Galeria Oamenilor de Seamă) stands at no. 91, Strada Sucevei, in the centre of Fălticeni, Suceava County, in a house built in 1850 and donated by the Fălticeni-born writers Horia Lovinescu (1917-1983) and Vasile Lovinescu (1905-1984). Next door is the House of Eugen Lovinescu, dated to the same year.
The museum opened on 16 June 1972, under the guidance of the local chronicler Eugen Dimitriu, to show how many figures of Romanian culture were connected with the town. The house was restored with local budget funds, with work completed at the beginning of 2012.
The exhibition, set out in four rooms, includes books, manuscripts, photographs, paintings, letters, busts and documents on more than 50 people: the writers Nicu Gane, Ion Creangă, Mihail Sadoveanu, Anton Holban, Nicolae Labiș and Ion Dragoslav, the critic Eugen Lovinescu and the Lovinescu family, the folklorists Artur Gorovei and Mihai Lupescu, the actors Matei Millo and Grigore Vasiliu-Birlic, the painter Aurel Băeșu, the scientist Dimitrie Leonida and others. Among the items are Ion Creangă's certificate from the catechists' school and his primer, and Mihail Sadoveanu's certificate for four years of primary school. One room is devoted to the folklorists Gorovei and Lupescu and the publications they edited. The building also houses the Romanian-American Cultural Centre, funded by Professor Eliot Sorel, who was born in Fălticeni.
The house is a listed historic monument with LMI code SV-II-m-B-05545. The museum is run by Fălticeni City Hall and is open to visitors.
