The Carpathian Hunting Museum „Posada” lies on the left bank of the Prahova river, in the Posada district of the town of Comarnic, next to the DN1 road and about 4 km from Sinaia. It occupies a two-storey building in the courtyard of Posada Castle, the Bibescu family residence, at Strada Posada no. 11.
The castle began as a stone mountain manor built on the orders of Prince Gheorghe Bibescu in the years before the 1848 revolution. George Valentin Bibescu later enlarged the old manor into a castle. The buildings were damaged during the First World War, then renovated and used as a princely residence until after the Second World War. The Romanian museums guide calls the building Martha Bibescu Castle, after the writer Martha Bibescu. The museum opened on 26 November 1996 as a section of the Peleș National Museum, later passed to Romsilva, and reopened after renovation on 25 April 2004.
The collection brings together more than 2,000 hunting trophies, many of them award winners at national and international exhibitions, a large part of which belonged to the Ceaușescu family. On display are mounted animals in dioramas, including one dedicated to the Danube Delta, chamois and Carpathian red deer trophies, exhibits on extinct species (the aurochs and the wisent), daggers and flintlock guns. One room is dedicated to the writer Mihail Sadoveanu.
The museum belongs to the National Forest Administration Romsilva and is accredited by the Ministry of Culture (order no. 2694/03.03.2022). It is open to visitors with a ticket.
