The World War I Heroes' Cemetery (1916-1918) is in the town of Azuga, beside the DN1 road about 1 km north of the town, on the way to Predeal. The national List of Historic Monuments records it under code PH-IV-a-A-16881 as a memorial and funerary monument of national importance and dates it to 1920, the year it was laid out. It is the only monument of national importance in Azuga; the town's ten other listed monuments are buildings of local importance.
The cemetery is linked to the fighting of autumn 1916 in the Prahova Valley. Between 9 and 25 October 1916, in the Battle of the Prahova Valley, also called the Battle of Predeal, the Romanian 2nd Army stopped the attempt of the German 9th Army under General Erich von Falkenhayn to cross the Carpathians by the shortest route to Bucharest. The German attacks gained only about four kilometres, and the front settled on the Clăbucet-Azuga line.
The cemetery is a military burial ground dedicated to the heroes of the First World War and lies at the northern end of the town, towards the border with Brașov County. It is reached directly from the DN1 road.
