"I.C. Brătianu" Museum Centre

The "I.C. Brătianu" Museum Centre is a cultural landmark located in the city of Buzău, housed in the building of the former I.C. Brătianu Hospital, a historic monument of significance to the local heritage. The building was restored, conserved and modernised through a project funded under the Regional Operational Programme 2014–2020 and reopened as a museum centre, functioning as an external branch of the Buzău County Museum. The centre's main theme is the history of the medical institution that operated here for over a century and a half, encompassing the period during which the former surgical hospital became the Ophthalmology–E.N.T. ward of the Buzău County Hospital. The exhibitions reconstruct various rooms of the hospital as they appeared in the first half of the 20th century — waiting rooms and the duty room, wards, consulting rooms, operating theatres, sterilisation rooms and a radiodiagnostics room — and display doctors', nurses', surgeons' and patients' attire, either original or as replicas, alongside instruments used in general and ophthalmic surgery. In addition to the medical history component, the centre hosts fine art exhibitions dedicated to artists from Buzău, contributing to the preservation of local artistic memory. Through its specialised subject matter, the landmark complements the museum network of Buzău County and documents a distinct chapter in the social and medical history of the city.
