Brăila County Centre for the Conservation and Promotion of Traditional Culture

The Brăila County Centre for the Conservation and Promotion of Traditional Culture is a public cultural institution under the authority of the Brăila County Council, headquartered in Piața Traian, in the historic central area of the city. Known locally as the "Centrul de Creație" (Creative Centre), the institution has a tradition spanning over four decades and initiates cultural projects and programmes in the fields of lifelong education and traditional culture. The centre's mission is to protect and preserve representative values of folk creativity, to stimulate creativity across all genres of amateur performing arts, to support creators and performers of authentic folk tradition, and to promote multiculturalism and minority cultures. The institution runs artistic workshops for children and young people (aged 5 to 18), where traditions and crafts are passed down from one generation to the next, and coordinates well-established ensembles of local cultural life, such as the "Camerata" choir, founded in 1997. Among its landmark events is the "George Grigoriu" International Light Music Festival, a major competition in which contestants from numerous countries take part, as well as contests, performances and educational projects organised in partnership with schools and institutions across the county. Through its activities, the centre stands as an important reference point for the preservation of intangible cultural heritage and for the artistic life of the Brăila community.
