Saint John the Baptist Cathedral, Huși

The "Saint John the Baptist" Cathedral in Huși is the main Orthodox place of worship in the city and the episcopal seat of the Episcopia Hușilor, one of the oldest dioceses in Moldova, founded in 1597 during the reign of Ieremia Movilă. The current building was constructed in the 19th century on the site of earlier structures and has undergone several restoration and consolidation works over the years. The cathedral serves as the administrative and spiritual centre of the Episcopia Hușilor, which oversees religious activity in the counties of Vaslui and Galați. Architecturally, the building combines elements of the neo-Byzantine style with Moldavian influences characteristic of the historic region of Moldova. The interior houses mural paintings and liturgical objects of historical value, some dating from earlier periods in the diocese's existence. The city of Huși is located approximately 50 km east of Vaslui, and the cathedral is situated in the town centre, accessible via DN 24B from Vaslui or via county roads from Bârlad. Public transport provides regular connections between Huși and the main cities in the region. The cathedral is well worth a visit for its historical significance as the seat of one of Moldova's longest-standing ecclesiastical institutions, as well as for the artistic and documentary heritage it preserves.
