Vânturiș Waterfall

Cascada Vânturiș, also known as Cascadele Vânturiș, is a series of waterfalls located in the Munții Bucegi, Prahova County, on the Valea Izvorul Dorului, below Muntele Vânturiș, near the town of Sinaia. The waterfalls are formed by the Izvorul Dorului stream, which rises in the Piatra Arsă area, flows gently across the Bucegi plateau, and then plunges noisily upon reaching the steep wall of the Valea Izvorul Dorului, forming three large waterfalls and several smaller ones. The water flow varies significantly depending on the season, reaching its highest levels in spring and early summer with the melting of the snow, while it can drop considerably during the dry summer months. From a geological standpoint, the Munții Bucegi are composed predominantly of conglomerates and sandstones, and the erosion exerted by water on these rocks has produced the deep valleys and steep escarpments on which waterfalls such as Vânturiș are formed. The vegetation in the area is characteristic of the upper montane and subalpine zones, with spruce forests, dwarf pine thickets, and alpine meadows at higher altitudes. The waterfall lies within the boundaries of Parcul Natural Bucegi, a nationally protected area. Access is from Sinaia, typically starting from the Cota 1400 or Cota 2000 areas, along marked trails that lead close to the valley; however, the final section to the waterfall is unmarked, steep, and difficult, and is recommended only for people with mountain experience or those accompanied by individuals familiar with the area.
