Cascada Valul Miresei

Cascada Valul Miresei is located near the village of Răchițele, in the commune of Mărișel, Cluj County, at an altitude of approximately 1,000 m, in the Munții Gilău area of the Munții Apuseni. The waterfall has a height of around 30 m and is fed by the Răchițele stream, a tributary of the Someșul Rece. It falls into the category of cataracts, with the water descending a steep rocky slope carved into the metamorphic and crystalline rocks characteristic of the geological bedrock of the northern Apuseni. Flow rates vary considerably depending on the season, reaching their peak in spring with the melting of snow from higher altitudes. The surrounding vegetation is dominated by beech and spruce forests, with shade-tolerant montane flora species near the waterfall's catchment basin. The area is administratively part of the Parcul Natural Apuseni, which entails restrictions on camping and the collection of species. Access is from the village of Răchițele along a marked trail of approximately 30–45 minutes on foot, starting from the centre of the village. The asphalted road to Răchițele can be reached from Huedin via DN1R, or from Cluj-Napoca along the same national road, covering a distance of approximately 60 km. The waterfall is worth visiting for its notable dimensions at county level and for the accessibility of the trail, which is suitable for families with children as well.
