Cascada Casoca

Cascada Casoca is situated on Valea Casoca, a tributary of the Buzău river, near the commune of Siriu in Buzău County, at the foot of Munții Buzăului, part of the Carpații de Curbură. The waterfall forms on a mountain stream with variable flow, influenced seasonally by rainfall and snowmelt, reaching more substantial flow rates in spring and early summer. The geological zone is dominated by Carpathian flysch — alternating sandstones and schists characteristic of the Carpații de Curbură, formed during the Mesozoic and Paleogene — formations that determine the morphology of the valleys and the steep character of the slopes. Valea Casoca passes through an area covered with beech and conifer forests, habitat for species such as the brown bear, the wolf, and various raptor species. The riparian vegetation along the watercourse includes species characteristic of the lower and middle mountain belt. Access is from the locality of Siriu, following the marked trail along Valea Casoca. The route can be covered on foot, with the distance from the starting point to the waterfall varying depending on the chosen path, estimated at approximately 2–3 hours of walking. Access infrastructure is limited, and appropriate equipment for mountain terrain is recommended. Cascada Casoca is worth visiting for the combination of flysch geological formations, the biodiversity specific to Munții Buzăului, and the relatively wild character of the valley, untouched by intensive tourist development.
