Capra Waterfall Transfagarasan

Capra Waterfall is one of the most accessible waterfalls in the Munții Făgăraș, located on the Valea Capra, a tributary of the Argeș river, at an altitude of approximately 1,900 m. The waterfall has a height of around 20 m and is fed by torrents descending from the eastern slopes of the main Făgăraș ridge, supplied primarily by snowmelt and the abundant precipitation characteristic of the area. The flow rate varies significantly depending on the season, reaching peak values in spring and early summer. From a geological standpoint, the area is dominated by Precambrian crystalline schists, typical of the foundation of the Southern Carpathians, which give the rock high resistance and account for the steep profile of the waterfall. The surrounding vegetation is characteristic of the subalpine and alpine belts, with thickets of dwarf mountain pine (Pinus mugo), bilberry, and juniper. Access is via DN7C — the Transfăgărășan — one of the best-known mountain roads in Romania, generally open between June and October depending on weather conditions. The waterfall is located approximately 3 km north of Lacul Bâlea Lac and around 140 km from Curtea de Argeș. The road is paved along its entire length, and designated parking areas are available nearby. Capra Waterfall is well worth a visit for its high accessibility combined with the authentic mountain setting of the Făgăraș ridge, and for the opportunity to incorporate it into a longer itinerary that includes Lacul Capra and the main ridge.
