Cascada Cailor

Cascada Cailor is one of the highest waterfalls in Romania, with a free fall of approximately 90 metres, situated in the Munții Rodnei range on the territory of the commune of Borșa in Maramureș County. The water gathers in a glacial cirque, flows down the Izvorul Cailor stream and falls in several steps over a rocky cliff. The area forms part of the Parcul Național Munții Rodnei, a protected area of international importance included in the Natura 2000 network. The altitude at the base of the waterfall is approximately 1,300 metres. The flow rate varies considerably depending on the season, reaching its peak in spring during the snowmelt period. Access is from the resort of Borșa, along the red-triangle trail (Borșa Tourist Complex - Horses' Waterfall - Prislop Pass), or by chairlift up to the Runc plateau. Cascada Cailor is well worth visiting for its remarkable physical scale within the context of the Eastern Carpathians and for the relatively accessible trail leading to it.
