Cascada Bisoca

Cascada Bisoca is located in the commune of Bisoca, Buzău County, in the mountain area of the Munții Buzăului, at an altitude of approximately 700–800 m, on the Mălușel stream, a tributary of the Râmnic river. It is also known by the names Chișătoarea or Cascada de pe Case — popular toponyms from the area of the village of Pleși, where the waterfall is well known to locals. The water drop is approximately 8 m high and becomes particularly spectacular in spring, during the snowmelt period, and in autumn, when heavy rainfall considerably increases its flow. A natural pool has formed at the base of the waterfall, where the water gathers before continuing its course. The natural setting is wild and well preserved — dense forests of beech, hornbeam and spruce cover the slopes, and the sound of the water can be heard from a distance along the trail. Along the route to the waterfall, two smaller waterfalls can also be found: Cascada Bufna and Cascada Muntioru, which complement the experience. The area is part of the Natura 2000 site of the Subcarpații Buzăului, with characteristic wildlife including wolf, brown bear, red deer and birds of prey. Cascada Bisoca can be combined into a day trip with Belvedere Bisoca, the Rezervația Lacurile Bisoca and Mănăstirea Poiana Mărului, all located in the same area. It is well worth a visit for the authentic wilderness of the place and for the rarity of finding a virtually unknown waterfall, free of tourist crowds, in Buzău County.
