Nicolae Iorga Memorial House Botoșani

The Nicolae Iorga Memorial House in Botoșani is located in the municipality of Botoșani, in the county of the same name, and marks the birthplace of one of the most prolific historians, cultural figures and politicians in twentieth-century Romania. Nicolae Iorga was born on 17 January 1871 in this house and died by assassination on 27 November 1940, at Strejnic, Prahova County. The house has been converted into a memorial museum and preserves architectural features and personal objects representative of the historian's era and family. The building is constructed in the architectural style typical of bourgeois dwellings from the second half of the 19th century in Moldova, with the eclectic influences characteristic of the period. The permanent exhibition includes original documents, period photographs, correspondence, books from the personal library and items of furniture that belonged to the Iorga family. During his lifetime, Nicolae Iorga published over 1,000 volumes and approximately 25,000 articles, figures that place him among the most prolific authors in the history of Romanian culture. He served as President of the Council of Ministers of Romania from 1931 to 1932 and was the founder of the Nationalist Democratic Party.
