The memorial house is in Agapia village, Agapia commune, in the monastic village right next to Agapia Monastery. It can be reached from the monastery courtyard by following the signs. The house was built in 1885 by the elder sister of the writer Alexandru Vlahuță (1858-1919) as a nun's dwelling. The writer's mother also lived here, and Vlahuță, who was born in Pleșești, Vaslui County, often came for his summer holidays. In 1902 he extended the house, which originally had two rooms, with a large hall with a glass wall and two rooms beneath it. The house was visited by friends of the writer, among them Ion Luca Caragiale, Barbu Ștefănescu Delavrancea, Octavian Goga and George Coșbuc. The memorial museum was set up in the 1950s. The permanent exhibition, modernised and reopened on 19 July 2012, includes original furniture, personal belongings, books, manuscripts and letters from the Vlahuță family library, as well as photographs of the visits of the writer's friends. Only the upstairs rooms are open to the public. The building, dated 1885, is a listed historic monument, LMI code NT-II-m-B-10628. The house belongs to Agapia Monastery, and the museum is run by the Agapia Parish.
